90 years is an achievement in anyone’s language and today we had the opportunity to share the celebration of my aunt’s 90th birthday with a large number of extended family. It was a joy to spend time with 4 generations of various branches of the family. I find that these sort of events serve to remind us of the importance of family and I come away with renewed respect for blood ties. Friends are fantastic but there is something special about family. Perhaps it is the shared history? My family mean the world to me and I don’t ever want to let go of that.

Ah, this is one area that evokes emotion for me. Being migrants deprives us of the opportunity to engage in these gatherings. So much so that we value any family get together for the reasons you mention. Especially the rare ones with family overseas.
