I have started introducing my granddaughters to gifts of experiences rather than more and more stuff.
I bought tickets to shows for them both for Christmas and today was Miss O’s turn. We went to Sydney for the day to see the stage production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
First, there was a plane to catch.
We also managed a ferry ride on the harbour.
All that sightseeing works up an appetite.
Finally, it was time for the show.
A unique and unforgettable experience. Apart from the actual show we really enjoyed the quality one-on-one time.
Experience gifts can be as simple or extravagant as you choose.
Wow! What a lucky little girl and a generous grandmother! She won’t forget that in a hurry. And, yes, much more valuable than “stuff”! Well done.
I would love to see a performance of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang it was one of my favorites when I was little. Miss O will never forget your gift. It’s funny how with presents children forget who gave them what after a bit, but a gift they can experience with you remains forever.
Hey, Fairy,
I think a great experience is an wonderful gift to give! A toy can be broken and forgotten but a good memory will last forever. What a wonderful grandmother you must be and they must really love you!
Hope you have a wonderful New Year!

Aww Fairy, this is lovely! I love the concept of Experience Gifts, what it can teach and the memories you are making with your grandchildren. I do not do this on a large scale but my smallest Huckleberry (child) and I have a few favorite outings we like to take each month and I hope he is making as many memories as I am. Thanks for sharing and for visiting my blog.

Thanks everyone for your positive feedback. We had a wonderful time and I know Miss O (and I) will remember it for a long time to come.
