A Deadline

A bit quiet on the blogging front as I have been busy sewing.  As always, once I get started on a sewing project I just want to keep going.  However, this is more than just my own interest which is driving me – it is a deadline.

Sunday 28th January will see the official launch of Maleny Boomerang Bags.  In order to make this a successful event, we want to have has many completed bags as possible available on the day.

I have been doing my bit and have finished 10 so far.  Here are some of them.

I have more straps made and bags cut out so hope to be able to add to that number before Sunday.

You would think that would be relatively easy since tomorrow is Australia Day and we have a 3 day weekend but there is the small matter of the Australian Film Festival.  This festival is an annual event hosted by the Maleny Film Society and we will be attending 4 films over 2 days as well as a couple of additional sessions so I am not sure how much sewing will get done.

To my Australian readers – what are your long weekend plans?

Festival Time

I could say that I have been out partying but that is not strictly the truth.  Thursday, 26th January is Australia Day and each year on the weekend closest to Australia Day the Maleny Film Society holds an Australian Film Festival.

We bought our passes, donned our festival armbands and immersed ourselves in a selection of Australian movies.  They were ‘Girl Asleep’, ‘Pawno’, ‘Broke’ and ‘Goldstone’.  They were all somewhat edgy, challenging and thought-provoking.  The language in ‘Pawno’ and ‘Broke’ particularly was not for the faint-hearted.

A real highlight was the attendance of well-known movie reviewer, David Stratton.

The other thing I have been working on is planning for our trip to the UK later in the year.  We now have our airfares and the majority of the accommodation organised.  I write about our travel plans and adventures on my other blog, Somewhere, Anywhere so please feel free to pop over and read all about it.

Today has been back to the everyday tasks – washing, ironing, menu planning, shopping and preparing meals.  I have also been moving along some excess items from the workshop from when we did a bit of a clean up a couple of weeks ago.  More about that in the next post.

Head in the Clouds

The fine, misty rain started here just after midday yesterday and the light rain has continued ever since.  The cloud is right down over the mountains and this is the view we have had all day.

Meanwhile, I have spent the day inside doing some sewing.  I have finished making the tablecloth for our “Woodstock” dinner table.  Here it is spread out on the spare bed.

My skirt is made, too.

Tonight we are to the movies in Maleny.  There is a film night on alternate Saturday nights put on by the Maleny Film Society and tonight it is ‘Oranges and Sunshine’ about the forced migration of children from the United Kingdom.

There is an option to have dinner beforehand in the hall.  The catering is by Pomodoras, a local restaurant and accommodation venue.  We are going to have dinner before the movie tonight so looking forward to a good night.

While I have been typing this it has started to pour with rain so umbrellas will be a must to stay dry as we make our way into the hall.

We have put the dehumidifier to good use in our bedroom so that we will have dry sheets to sleep in tonight.  The humidity in the house is still about 90% despite having the fire on all day.
