Home Again
2 CommentsWe are safely home after being away for 3 weeks. It was fun to spend time with family and friends in different surroundings but it is also good to be back and I am looking forward to sleeping in my own bed tonight.
Here is a quick round-up of what has been happening.
The gifted quilt is now in its new home.
A final farewell to some of the family.
A couple of shots of an approaching storm yesterday. We had to pull off the road as there was a short burst of wind, very heavy rain and some hail. Thankfully, there does not appear to be any damage to the car.
It was a hot, sunny day here and I was able to do 2 loads of washing when we arrived home and get them all dried this afternoon. Now the folding and ironing awaits…………
Patience Pays Off
1 CommentThis afternoon GMan was weeding in the garden and he removed the cover from the raised bed where I planted some cauliflower seedlings months ago. They have had no attention and amazingly we found one ready to pick.
There are about 4 or 5 others which are a bit smaller but will be ready to harvest before too long.
Meanwhile, the chard continues to produce enough to pick. Here is what I picked this afternoon and it will be used for dinner.
We arrived home yesterday after being away for a few days. We went to see our football team play in the first of the finals and it was a very disappointing outing as they were thoroughly outplayed. They do have one more chance this weekend. I am hopeful but not confident. Our other engagement was a difficult one as we gathered with many others to farewell a friend who had died much too young after a courageous battle with cancer.
Out of respect for everyone involved there are no photographs.
However, here is a sweet reminder of the joy of little things.
Kicking Goals
1 CommentFor several weeks I have felt as though we have been juggling various aspects of our house sale and relocation without making much progress on anything.
That is not entirely true but now everything is beginning to fall into place. I mentioned last week that we have an unconditional contract for the sale of our current home.
We have also made an offer, which has been accepted, to purchase a property in Maldon, Victoria. The contract should be signed within the next couple of days. This will give us a firm date for when we can move into our new home.
Meanwhile, we have done lots of jobs – large and small.
- Packed more boxes
- Held a garage sale
- Bought a tarpaulin to cover the items we will be transporting in the ute
- Booked a pre-travel service for the ute
- Bought a lock mechanism for the toolbox
- Researched a hands-free phone holder for the ute (no bluetooth)
- Finalised our accommodation arrangements for the remainder of our time in Queensland
- Planned our road trip from here to Victoria.
Even though the majority of our focus is on the house sale, purchase and relocation, we have still found time to enjoy some recreation. Tomorrow evening we are going to enjoy some live theatre as we attend a production of David Williamson’s play, Family Values. I am really looking forward to that.
Road Trip
2 CommentsFor 2 months we have mostly stayed at home apart from a weekly trip to buy fresh produce and dairy and a couple of forays to Bunnings for necessities for the renovation projects. Over the last week or two we have also made a couple of visits to family.
COVID19 restrictions have been eased slightly but I have no real desire to go browsing in shops or mix with people whom I do not know.
However, we needed to get out and a road trip seemed like the perfect answer.
Packed up and ready to go.
We set out with a vague idea of going to Toowoomba. That did indeed become our destination, albeit via a rather circuitous route. Our first stop was for petrol so we then took the back road via the Glasshouse Mountains lookout to Woodford. From there, we headed through Kilcoy, Yarraman and Oakey before arriving in Toowoomba. It was definitely the road less travelled.
It was time for a late lunch by the time we reached Toowoomba and we found a Turkish restaurant that were also offering takeaway meals.
Despite the cold weather (apparent temperature about 2C) we headed for Queens Park to find a picnic table where we could eat.
We were rugged up with jackets and I had my knitted cap which kept my ear and head warm. There were other people in the park but social distancing was certainly not an issue.

Our return route was via the highway to Brisbane where we made a brief stop to visit my mother and then back onto the highway for home.
In no time we had a fire going to warm the room.
Our day out was an adventure which broke the monotony of the days at home.
